The ride was harder than I remember in previous years-- maybe because it was 90+ degrees out on the road and approximately 200% humidity. ;) I'm glad we started so early, 7am on Saturday and 5am on Sunday, or we would have melted. Better than the rain we had on the second day last year though -- I'll take the heat!
I have a few friends that I've been riding with the past three years, here we are right before the start:
The ride the first day is 84 miles, with water stops about every 20 miles. Usually everyone is eating quite a lot, but this year it was all about the gatorade... and at this stop they had popsicles which were lifesavers!
The first night we spend at the Mass Maritime Academy right in Bourne -- there's music, food and refreshments (all of which are greatly appreciated and donated by corporate sponsors)
The past two years I have brought a tent, but stayed in the dorm rooms. They've been hot even in cool years, so this time I opted for new accommodations
with a fantastic view from the bedroom
Couldn't have been nicer. I heard the waves crashing on the shore all night, although I had to wake up before the sun in order to be packed up and ready to pedal at 5am. The second day we really cranked out the miles and ended up finishing before 11am.
Once again, the PMC weekend didn't disappoint. Great riding, great friends and a phenomenal cause. Thanks again to everyone who supported me in this ride!
